PPD

The purpose of the special programs division of the District Attorney's Office is to administer the Pre Prosecution Diversion (PPD) Program,  Drug Pre Prosecution  Program (DPPD), and Domestic Violence Pre Prosecution (DVPPD) Program in accordance with NMSA 1978, 31-16A-1 - 31-16A-8.  This alternative to prosecution is offered to selected adult first offenders charged with certain nonviolent felony crimes, and certain drug related crimes. 

Goals and Objectives

  • Determine which offenders are appropriate to participate in PPD, DPPD, or DVPPD.
  • Assist offenders in learning responsibility.
  • Make offenders aware of consequences of criminal activity.
  • Help offenders move forward with their lives.
  • Offenders who successfully complete PPD, DPPD, DVPPD have no felony conviction.
  • Prosecution continues for offenders who violate PPD, DPPD, or DVPPD rules and are unsuccessfully terminated.
  • Identify offenders' drug use and abuse problems. (DPPD)
